Goodling Leads Penn State Harrisburg in Season Finale

Middletown, Pa. – After a roller coaster season, Penn State Harrisburg baseball looked to finish out their 2015 campaign with a win. Behind the standout performance from starting pitcher, Brian Goodling (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) the Lions were able to do just that as they defeated the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College, 2-0.

The Blue and White were able to get the bats going early and jump on Elizabethtown in the opening inning. Kevin Kremer (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) was able to drive in Kyle Buchman (Orefield, Pa. / Notre Dame) with an RBI groundout to give the Lions the early 1-0 advantage.  Penn State was able to extend their lead in the bottom of the second inning from a Mitchell Rodkey (Annville, Pa. / Annville-Cleona) single that allowed Cody Henry (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) to reach home and put Harrisburg ahead 2-0.

The key to the Penn State Harrisburg victory was undoubtedly the pitching of starter Brian Goodling.  The sophomore right-hander struck out 14 batters, gave up only four hits, and walked just one in eight complete innings.  Senior Tom Chaney (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) entered the game in the ninth inning to pick up the save for the Blue and White.

Penn State Harrisburg finishes the season with a final record of 16-23. The Lions turned things around the second half of their 2015 season.  Hopefully they will be able to carry their momentum into the offseason and start off strong in 2016.
