Hot Start Lifts Lions Past Stevenson

Middletown, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg took on Stevenson in a non-conference game.  A hot start by the Lions lifted them to a win by the score of 12-6 on Thursday April 16th.

Going into the game, Stevenson was preparing for their conference playoffs coming up in two weeks as the Lions looked to improve their record after already being knocked out of the Capital Athletic Conference playoffs. The Lions jumped out early scoring six runs in the 1st innings off of five walks, four hits and an error that did the damage for the Lions.

From there on a strong pitching performance from Mark Artley (Milton, Pa. / Milton Area) kept the Stevenson bats in check through five innings only allowing three runs off of three hits.   The Blue and White were able to score six more runs, three in the 4th, two in the 5th, and one in the 6th to push their lead to nine.  Stevenson tried to bring the game within reach, scoring three more runs in the final two innings but failed to make up any real ground giving the Lions the 12-6 victory.

Leading the way for the Lions was Chris Iocca (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick Township) who went 2-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Josh Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Christian) and Brendan Miller (Williamstown, Pa. / Williams Valley) also helped the cause with two RBIs of their own.

The Lions will look to improve on their four game winning streak this upcoming Sunday April 19th when Dickinson College comes to play their makeup game starting 1 P.M.
