Myrtle Beach, SC. – Despite a valiant effort in the Lions second game of the day along with a three run shot that put the Lions on top going into the final inning of the day, Penn State Harrisburg fell to Bridgewater twice on Tuesday March 10th, losing by a score of 4-0 and 9-7.
In the first game, the Lions struggled to string together their bats and regardless of out hitting the Eagles six to five were not able to claim the win. The Eagles put together the hits they needed in the 4th inning to go up by two and didn't look back, adding additional runs in the 5th and 6th innings to end the game 4-0.
Leading the Blue and White in their first game was Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) who went 2-3 from the plate. Going into the second game the Lions hopped to turn the tables on the Eagles. Unfortunately, Bridgewater came out fast and scored three runs in the top of the 1st.
Going in to the 3rd the Lions got there chance to tie the game and capitalized on their opportunities. Penn State Harrisburg scored three runs caped off by a double that scored two by Bryan Balshy (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra). After tying the game up, 3-3, Bridgewater scored a run in the 4th and 5th inning to go up 5-3.
Down two entering the bottom of the 6th the Blue and White thought they had the momentum needed for a win after a monster 3 run shot over the right field fence by Cody Henry (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) to take a 7-6 heading into the final inning. Henry led the Lions in the second game going 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a home run.
The story line changed in the top of the 7th thanks to a four run response by the Eagles. After adding another run in the bottom half of the inning the Lions fell to Bridgewater 9-7. The Lions will continue their trip in South Carolina tomorrow when they take on Catholic University at 3 p.m.
