Charlie Johnson begins his first season as an assistant coach with the Penn State Harrisburg men’s soccer team in the fall of 2019. He will work primarily with the goalkeepers. 

 

Prior to his arrival at Penn State Harrisburg, Johnson served as a top assistant coach at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md., during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. While at McDaniel, Johnson assisted in the best defensive record during the 2018 season for goals-against in the program’s last 20 years. In 2017, Johnson helped lead the program to its first winning record and playoff berth in 12 years. Johnson helped lead senior goalkeeper Nick Over to All-Centennial Conference honors that fall.

 

As a player, the Harrisburg, Pa., native enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at York College of Pennsylvania. The three-year starting goalkeeper and two-year captain helped the program win one Capital Athletic Conference Championship (CAC) and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2013.

 

Johnson graduated from York (Pa.) with a bachelor’s degree in sport management and a minor in athletic coaching in 2017. At McDaniel, Johnson earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology in 2019. Johnson is also a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches (USC) National and Advanced National Coaching Diplomas.
