Ladies’ 2013 Campaign Begins In York

YORK, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's 2013 season got underway on Saturday morning, Sep. 15 when the Blue & White ladies took part in York (Pa.) College's Coach Achtzehn Invitational in York.  The Lions finished 11th of the 11 teams taking part in the meet and senior Alisha House (Crownpoint, N.M. / Thoreau) turned in the squad's top individual performance.  Her time of 31:02 was good enough to earn her a 75th place finish out of 108 total runners.  Goucher won the team title and the Gophers picked up their second crown of the day when junior Katherine Currier took home the individual championship with a time of 23:56.

Following House was the Lions' freshman Rachel Sechrist (Allentown, Pa. / Salisbury) with a time of 31:33, good enough for an 82nd place finish.  Penn State Harrisburg runners Madison Sirb (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) and Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) crossed the finish line back-to-back in 93rd and 94th thanks to their respective times of 33:50 and 34:23.  Freshman Rebecca Bailey (Tobyhanna, Pa. / Notre Dame) used a time of 35:07 to grab a spot in the top 100 at 96th.

Senior Katryna Stegmeier (Nesquehoning, Pa. / Tamaqua Area), junior Emilee Truitt (West Chester, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Jasmine Broadnax (Secane, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) all finished just outside the top 100 in 101st, 103rd and 104th, respectively.  Junior Oneisha Gaines-Rodgers (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia School For Girls) rounded out the Penn State Harrisburg runners in 108th.

The Lions will next be in action when Penn State Harrisburg travels to Messiah to take part in the school's invitational on Saturday, Sep. 21.
