Snyder Makes History Against Dickinson

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.Alyssa Snyder made history on Tuesday night when she became just the second player in Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball history to record 1,000 assists for her career. She racked up 45 total assists during the Lions' 3-1 setback to Dickinson at the Capital Union Building.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg played some of its best volleyball of the season during a loss to Dickinson on Tuesday night. The Lions (18-8) took the opening set before falling by scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, and 25-23. Snyder had a big night with her 45 assists and 10 digs, Megan Morris tallied a team-high 22 digs, and Tiniira Tubo finished with 13 kills.

The first set saw the home team jump out to a 5-0 lead following a Cheyanna Buckingham kill off a Snyder assist. The Penn State Harrisburg advantage grew to 15-9 midway through the game but the Red Devils (13-9) drew even at 20-20 late in the set. The Lions responded, however, putting together a 5-2 run that included kills from Tubo, Buckingham, Melanie Sheaffer, and Tori Henderson to close out the set.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team gaining a sizable advantage until the Lions pulled ahead 17-13 following blocks by Snyder and Anna Ruff. Dickinson responded with four straight points before scoring three of the final four to even the match at one set apiece.

Set three remained tight until the midway point when the visitors grabbed a seven-point lead and were able to hold off a late push by the Lions that included a Henderson kill that cut the deficit to 21-17. The Red Devils answered with a 4-2 run that halted the Blue & White momentum and closed out the set.

The fourth set was another even encounter, with Penn State Harrisburg getting out to an 8-4 lead thanks to a Sheaffer kill off a Morris assist before Dickinson responded with five consecutive points. The Lions fell behind 15-10 but refused to go away, reeling off seven of the next eight points to reclaim the lead following blocks by Ruff and Buckingham. The visitors drew even before taking a 24-20 lead and despite the Blue & White pulling to within one thanks to three consecutive points, the Red Devils held on to take the set and the match.
