Women's Volleyball Clinches First Round Bye In NEAC Tourney

How It Happened 

Penn State Harrisburg defeated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Lancaster Bible (16-14, 7-4) 3-1. With the win, the Lions (15-12, 8-3) captured the number two seed in the upcoming NEAC postseason tournament, securing a first round bye.

 

Harrisburg came out strong, powered by a balanced offensive attack. Katelyn Kreider led that attack recording a team high 10 kills. The Lions finished off the opening set with a massive solo block by Brittany Ebaugh, winning the set 25-15. Ebaugh added seven solo blocks to her NCAA leading total.

 

In the second set, the Lions once again got off to a fast start and after a kill by Cheyanna Buckingham held a 4-0 lead. Harrisburg continued to grow their lead, pulling ahead by as many as ten points late in the set, on their way to capturing the second set 25-15.

 

With their backs against the wall, the Chargers rallied from another slow start to capture the third set 25-22. Harrisburg would respond using kills from Melanie Sheaffer, Krieder, and Buckingham to take a 9-0 lead in the fourth set. This time the Lions would hold the lead, with a kill by Kreider finishing out the set 25-16.

 

Inside the Numbers

- Katelyn Kreider led the Lions with 10 kills

- Harrisburg won the kill battle, 39-37

- Alexis Imler recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 23 assists and 10 digs

- Corrinne Cook led Harrisburg's defensive attack posting 19 digs

- The Blue & White held the advantage in digs 67-54

How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell to Messiah College (24-6) in their final regular season game 3-1. The Lions were led by Brittany Ebaugh who posted a team high eight kills and three solo blocks.

 

The teams traded points early in the opening set, with a Corrinne Cook serve ace tying the set at 10. The Falcons would score six straight points to take control of the set. Harrisburg answered right back behind a kill from Cheyana Buckingham and a service ace by Anna Ruff to pull with a single point. After tying the game at 20, Harrisburg won five straight points to capture the opening set.

 

The Falcons answered back capturing the next three sets in route to the victory. Messiah College's Natalie Marsch led the comeback, posting a game high 17 kills.

 

Inside the Numbers

- Brittany Ebaugh led the Lions offense with eight kills and added three solo blocks

- Alexis Imler recorded 16 assists

- Megan Morris paced the Lions defense, posting 11 digs

- The Falcons won the kills and digs battle

 

Who's Next?
