How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg avenged an opening-day loss to Moravian by returning the favor with a five-set victory over the Greyhounds by set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-12 at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 7.

 

The Lions (3-2) traded set victories with Moravian (3-3), taking the opener thanks to an attack error by the visitors before taking a 2-1 advantage when a kill by Melanie Sheaffer off a feed from Alex Imler secured the third-set win.

 

After falling by a slim margin in set four, the Blue & White jumped out to a 9-3 advantage in the deciding game. The visitors clawed back and cut the deficit to 12-10 but the Lions put together a 3-1 run to end the contest, capped by another kill from Sheaffer off an assist from Imler.

 

Inside the Numbers

- Brittany Ebaugh led the way offensively, racking up 14 kills and a .545 hitting percentage.

- Melanie Sheaffer added 12 kills, Cheyanna Buckingham posted seven and Katelyn Kreider had six.

- Libero Megan Morris dug out a team-high 21 balls, Kreider had 14 digs, Alexis Imler tallied 11 and Corrinne Cook reached double digits with 10.

- Imler also racked up 26 assists, while Alyssa Snyder added 12.

- Kreider posted six aces and Anna Ruff added a team-best four blocks.

How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg dropped a tightly-contested four-set decision to Penn State Altoona in the final outing of a tri-match at the Capital Union Building on Saturday evening, Sept. 7.

 

The Lions (3-3) jumped out a 7-3 advantage in the opening game but the visitors rallied back and eventually pulled ahead midway through the set. Penn State Altoona closed it out on a 7-3 run to grab the early lead.

 

The Blue & White responded in the second set, drawing even with a hard-fought win capped by a Brittany Ebaugh kill off an Alyssa Snyder pass and an attack error by the visiting Lions (3-1). Penn State Harrisburg again held a lead midway through the third set but similar to the opener, the visitors responded with a late run, scoring four of the final five points.

 

The fourth set was another back-and-forth affair, with Penn State Altoona taking the early lead, Penn State Harrisburg going on a 10-0 run with Megan Morris serving and the visitors eventually closing things out with a 10-2 run of their own.

 

Inside the Numbers

- Brittany Ebaugh and Melanie Sheaffer led the Lions with 13 kills apiece.

- Alexis Imler had a strong outing, recording seven kills, 25 assists, 17 digs and four blocks.

- Anna Ruff tallied seven total blocks, while Ebaugh added five of her own.

- Alyssa Snyder assisted on 16 points.

- Libero Megan Morris racked up 30 digs and Corrinne Cook posted 10.

 

Who's Next?

The Lions are back at the Capital Union Building for another non-conference match against Wilson on Wednesday night.
