How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg made things tough in every set but eventually fell 3-0 to Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe York (Pa.) by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20 at the Capital Union Building (CUB) on Wednesday night, Oct. 17.

The Lions (9-14, 1-4 CAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set and led 10-7 midway through the game following a Melanie Sheaffer kill off a Kristin Waring assist but Spartans (14-9, 2-3 CAC) used an 8-1 run to take control and close out the first set.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair in the early going and the Blue & White led as late as 14-13 before York (Pa.) was able to stretch its advantage to 22-17 late in the game. The Lions pulled to within 24-21 thanks to a Brittany Wolf Kill but the visitors responded with a set-ending kill in the closing moments.

After getting out to an 8-5 advantage, Harrisburg was forced to play catch up for much of the third set. The home team trailed by four midway through the game but cut the deficit to 21-19 after the Spartans sandwiched a pair of attack errors around a Katelyn Hossler kill. From there, York (Pa.) managed four of the final five points to take the set and the match.

Inside the Numbers

- York (Pa.) hit plus-.300 as a team in each of the first two games.

- For the match, the visitors hit .208, compared to just .069 for Penn State Harrisburg.

- The Spartans were strong at the net, racking up 16 total blocks.

- Melanie Sheaffer recorded a team-high 10 kills for the Blue & White.

- Libero Katelyn Hossler racked up a team-best 13 digs.

- Victoria Sweatlock, Brittany Wolf and Alexandra Kon finished with three blocks apiece.

- Setter Kristin Waring assisted on 20 points.

- Kari Ammerman accounted for the Lions' lone service ace on the night.

- The Spartans' Brooke Krebs racked up a match-high 13 kills.

- Heather Secrist dug out a match-best 15 balls for York (Pa.)
