How It Happened

The Penn State Harrisburg Women's Volleyball team fell in CAC action to #23 Christopher Newport, 3-1. After dropping the first two sets, the Lions rallied to take the third set by a score of 25-23.

The Lions got out to early leads in both the first and second sets, but the Captain's would rally back to capture each set. The Lions defense led by libero Katelyn Hossler managed the Captains offensive attack, recording 49 digs as a team in the match.

The Lions got momentum in the early in the third set, building a seven point advantage. Melanie Sheaffer, Victoria Sweatlock, Brittany Wolf, and Alexander Kon all recorded kills helping Harrisburg build a 14-7 lead. The Captains would battle back and close within one, but when Harrisburg recaptured the serve Kerri Miller helped the Lions regain momentum. Recording a service ace and forcing the Captains into several bad passes, Miller and the Lions took a 20-15 lead. The Captains would rally to capture the lead 23-22, but the Lions found an answer. Sheaffer, who led the Lions in kills with 10, would earn a kill tying the game at 23. Kon followed up with a solo block on the Captains' Riley Garrison to retake the lead. After a timeout Kristin Waring would perfectly place a serve along the edge of the court for a service ace, giving Harrisburg the set.

The Captains would respond building an early lead in the fourth set and held on to prevent the Lions from forcing a fifth set.
