Middletown, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg athletics continues to build and improve their program from year to year and today's hiring announcement continues this positive trend for the Lions in 2016. Angela Burkett has been named the Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball head coach. The Lions were a competitive team in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) this past season, but in 2016 she will focus on continued improvement and plans to put Penn State Harrisburg in a position to do more than just compete.
"I would like to thank the Director of Athletics Rahsaan Carlton and the entire Penn State Harrisburg athletics family for this tremendous opportunity." Burkett continued with "the excitement surrounding the growth of our program remains momentous. I look forward to developing our student-athletes both on and off the court and am excited to be a part of our future success."
As a player, Burkett was a defensive specialist at Lock Haven (Pa.) University. She assisted the Lady Eagles to three straight NCAA DII Elite Eight appearances, NCAA Atlantic Region championships (2004-05) and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title in 2004. She graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor in Business Management.
Director of Athletics Rahsaan Carlton is very excited about the direction the program is going in under Burkett. "We couldn't be more excited that Coach Burkett will be leading our women's volleyball program. She is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff and will thrive in her new role as head coach."
Outside of coaching, Burkett teaches group fitness and indoor cycling classes while also training for triathlons. She resides in the Harrisburg area with her husband, Jeremy.
