Middletown, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg women's Volleyball team held nothing back in their final tri-match of the season.  The women started the day off facing their final CAC opponent Mary Washington and then finished the season off with a tough non-conference match up verse Susquehanna University.

In the opening match against the Eagles, the Blue and White started off slow allowing the visitors to jump ahead early in the first set.  This proved too much to overcome as the Eagles took the first game 25-9.  The Lions started composed in game two and reversed the roles by starting out with an early run of their own.  As the game two moved on, the Eagles slowly crept back into contention.  Harrisburg allowed too many mental and technical errors in the final stretch and found themselves down two sets after the initial great start in game two.

In what would be the final set, Harrisburg kept things tight, but could not get the bounce or convert the integral points to shift the momentum in their favor when it counted most.  The Lions eventually lost the set 25-19.

As the second game started, Harrisburg still felt that could end their season with a win, despite facing a 27-8 Susquehanna team who had just beaten Mary Washington in a five set thriller. 

Unfortunately, as the first game sped through in favor of the visitors, the mood lightened as everyone could feel the season was on its way to a close.  The Lions fought valiantly in their last conference game against Mary Washington, but did not have the mental or physical stamina to finish out the day with the upset victory.  The Crusader's went on to win in three straight sets. 

Senior Chidere Igwe (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) was strong at the Net, especially in her final match as a Lion.  Her powerful kills could not be stopped when she connected at full strength.   Junior Captain Jessicca Farabaugh (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) combined with Erin Goodyear (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) to handle the Libero duties which primarily consist of a defensive effort while hitting the floor hard in an effort to keep the ball up. 

Harrisburg finishes their season with an overall record of 5-25 that feels much worse than it actually was.  The young women competed in a new conference that had the team competing against some of the best squads in Division III volleyball.  Even with all that, you could see the team improving from week to week.  With another year of hard work and returning the majority of the squad, things look promising for the future of Penn State Harrisburg volleyball.
