Blue & White Crushes Trinity (D.C.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Penn State Harrisburg picked up its fourth win of the 2013 season in impressive fashion on Friday night, Sep. 20.  The Lions allowed just 16 total points in their 3-0 road sweep of Trinity (D.C.).  The Blue & White won its sets easily by scores of 25-5, 25-10 and 25-1.

"Even though they had good defense we matched that and would not allow them to score," said Penn State Harrisburg Head Coach Bob Creason.  Trinity's defense may have looked good at points of the match, but the Lions' was stout all night long.

Junior Erin Goodyear (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) led the team in digs with 11 and the performances by sophomore Melissa Ganz (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) and junior Jessica Farabaugh (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) caught Creason's eye.  Farabaugh dug out eight balls while Ganz recorded five digs of her own.  Sophomore Katie Shek (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) stepped up defensively as well and dug out seven balls.

Offensively, freshman Marion Chlipala (Cape Coral, Fla. / Oasis Charter) led the way with eight kills while senior Chidere Igwe (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) chipped in with five.  Chlipala added a team-high service aces.

Senior captain Elizabeth Findley (New Providence, Pa. / Solanco) led the team in assists with ten while Shek, the Lions' second setter, assisted on three points.

The most impressive stat of the night?  Junior Bree Green (Philadelphia, Pa. / Cardinal Dougherty) served 24 straight times during the third and deciding set.  The Blue & White played as well as they have all season during the stretch en route to a crushing 25-1 victory.  Green recorded three aces during the stellar run.

With the win, Penn State Harrisburg improves to 4-9 on the season.  The Lions face a tough stretch the next couple of weeks beginning with their next contest against Dickinson on Tuesday, Sep. 24.  The match against the Red Devils takes place back within the friendly confines of the Capital Union Building (CUB) with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
