Harrisburg Finishes Strong with Win Over Notre Dame

Abington, Pa. - The Lions were hoping to be back on track following their quad match on Saturday.  They did not win all three matches, but without a doubt ended the day with the team heading in the right direction.  Their strong win in their final game of the day over Norte Dame (Md.) in three straight sets made all the Harrisburg faithful feel that greener pastures lie ahead.

The Blue and White started out the day fighting the effects of early season injuries that have sidelined a few key players this week.  Combined with Penn State Abington's strong servers, the lions found themselves on the learning end of 3-0 lesson.

Next match was a different story, Harrisburg played tough against a strong Wesley volleyball team.  The Lions were up 16-10 in both games two and three, but could not match the solid defense by their CAC conference opponent and dropped the final two games 25-20 losing the match 3-0.

The Blue and White turned up the intensity for their final match against Notre Dame.  "Our defense clicked and we outhit and blocked them" was how head coach Bob Creason put it.  He was very happy today with Chidere Igwe (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) who dominated the net and led the team in blocks and kills.  Sophomore Megan Sheaffer (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) made her presence felt on both sides and was second on the team in Kills with 7.    While Junior Captain Jessica Farabaugh (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) covered the floor and picked up an impressive thirty dig game to lead the defensive effort.

When the Lions defensive and offensive units got in sync they showed how they can win games.  Harrisburg's next outing brings them home Wednesday September 18th at 7:00 to host Penn State Altoona.
