Slow Start Dooms Ladies In Loss to Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg fell to 2-6 on the season after a tough 3-1 road loss to Bryn Athyn on Tuesday night, Sep. 10.  The Lions fell 25-8 in the first set before rallying to win the second set 25-22.  The ladies dropped the third set 25-15 before falling in a hard-fought final set 25-23.

Despite a competitive final three sets, including a final game that nearly saw the Lions push the home team to a deciding fifth set, the opener put the Blue & White in a hole from which the team was never quite able to climb out.

Offensively, senior Chidere Igwe (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) led the way with nine kills while freshman Marion Chlipala (Cape Coral, Fla. / Oasis Charter) added six kills and four aces.  Sophomore Olivia Umoren (Quincy, Mass. / North Quincy) also chipped in with six.

Junior Erin Goodyear (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) led the way defensively by digging out 17 balls.  Chlipala did her part as well, digging out 16 balls.  Sophomore Melissa Ganz (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) and senior captain Elizabeth Findley (New Providence, Pa. / Solanco) added 13 digs apiece.

Findley and sophomore setter Katie Shek (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) led Penn State Harrisburg in assists with nine each.

Penn State Harrisburg will next take the court this Saturday, Sep. 14 when the Lions take part in a multiple-match outing.  The Blue & White takes on Penn State Abington, Wesley and Notre Dame of Maryland.
