Lions Volleyball Has Tough Start at Tourney

Gettysburg Pa. - The Lions were hoping to take home their first win of the season this weekend playing in the Gettysburg Invitational but fell just short in matches verse Washington College and Bridgewater Saturday.

The Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball team kept things tight for a second day, but were unable to take home a win.  Kiara Carter led the team in Kills in the first match of the day against Washington College showing her strong presence for the Lions.  Defensively Melissa Ganz led the team with 8 digs.  Unfortunately Harrisburg lost in three sets 9-25, 12-25, and 19-25.

Game two found Harrisburg matching up against a 3-0 Bridgewater for a second time in two days.  The women would have to battle from behind after losing the first set of the match 16-25.  In game two, after a long weekend of working hard to earn points, the ladies got themselves their first set win of the season 25-23.  Set three was a repeat of the first set as Bridgewater won 25-16.

The Lions pushed hard in set four to tie things up and force a fifth set.   The score was tight all the way to the end, but the final points turned in favor of the Eagles as they were able to close out the match with a 25-21 win.

Despite not coming home with a result this weekend, the women kept most of the games tight and were just lacking a few plays on both sides of the ball to come home with a couple of wins.  Individually against Bridgewater it was Chidere Igwe who led the team with an impressive 11 kills.  Defensively Junior Erin Goodyear was hard to beat acquiring 14 Digs.

Harrisburg has their first home game Wednesday September 4th when they host Valley Forge Christian at 7:00 pm.
