MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball team had its share of ups and down during its 2012 campaign.  One of the highest of highs came every time the ladies stepped onto the floor at the Capital Union Building.  The Lions were nearly unbeatable when playing in front of their hometown faithful, starting the year 5-0 before dropping their final two games at the CUB to some very good competition.

Our ladies impressive defense of their home court puts them at number four on our list of Penn State Harrisburg's top ten fall sports moments.

Penn State Harrisburg downed Trinity (D.C.), Valley Forge Christian, Notre Dame of Maryland, Bryn Athyn and Penn State York in the team's first five home matches, only losing a combined two sets during the stretch.

Junior Chidere Igwe (West Orange, N.J. / West Orange) led the team in kills through the five-game span with 40 while freshman Olivia Umoren (Quincy, Mass. / North Quincy) made 30 kills of her own.

Senior captain Miranda Jumper (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) added ten points for the Lions in service aces.  Junior setter Beth Findley (New Providence, Pa. / Solanco) added nine aces during the same period.

Findley also led the Lions with 61 assists while freshman Katie Shek (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge), another of the squad's setters, assisted on 32 points.

Erin Goodyear (Boiling Springs, Pa. / Boiling Springs) was the stat-stuffer extraordinaire on defense.  The sophomore dug-out 50 balls in the Blue and White's home victories while Findley added 37 digs of her own.

Igwe blocked four opposing shots and senior Michelle Pellechia (Allentown, Pa. / Catasauqua) chipped in with three.  

Penn State Harrisburg's two home losses came to some of the best teams it faced all season in three-time defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champion and NCAA tournament-bound Gallaudet and an always competitive Dickinson squad.
