Penn State Harrisburg Finishes Strong at ECAC Championships

Westfield, MA – The Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's outdoor track teams finished off their team competitions for the year with strong showings from both the men's and women's side at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships May 18-29, 2016 hosted at Westfield State University .  Although, there were multiple top ten finisher's, freshman Cameron Yon (Patuxent River, MD / Great Mills High School) continued to show his dominance with a second place finish in the men's discuss, earning him the right to compete at next week's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Waverly, Iowa. 

Yon's 49.00 meter throw earned him All-East recognition and has him currently ranked 14th nationally.  His trip to the NCAA Championships will be the first for Penn State Harrisburg track and field.  Also performing well for the men was Jalil Clayton (Chester, PA / Chester High School) who earned two All-East honors as a freshman with his sixth place finish in the high jump and eight place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. 

Jalen Williams (Easton, Pa / Easton Area) had two top twenty finishes, placing 15th in the 100 meter dash and 18th place in the 200 meter.  He was also joined by Clayton, Josiah Owhe (Westbury, N.Y. / Westbury) and Isaiah Waters (Montclair, NJ / Montclair High School) in the 4x100 meter relay team that claimed tenth place with their time of 42.56. 

The Lion women had just one competitor in the ECAC Championships, but that did not deter freshman Ashley Williams (Easton, PA / Easton Area High School) from an All-East honor and sixth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles.  Williams has been ranked nationally throughout the year and also set the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) record in the 100 meter hurdles along with her conference title she won earlier this year. 

"We are excited to have had such a phenomenal turnout at what was only our second appearance at the outdoor ECAC Championship." Head Coach Danielle Lynch continued with, "we are proud to have four athletes earn All-East status and we are further elated to have one athlete who will be competing at the NCAA Championship in Iowa.  This will mark the first appearance there of many to come in the future."

Penn State Harrisburg finished 26th out of 53 teams on the men's side in regards to team placement and the women finished 52 out of 60 teams.
