Middletown Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis team struggled today against an impressive Frostburg State squad. Theodora Avramidis (Glenwood, N.J. / Vernon Township) was the team's only win on the day as the Lions fell 8-1.
Harrisburg had a rough outing against the strong Bobcat side. The # 1 doubles pairings of Gabrielle LeGendre (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Notre Dame)/Theodora Avramidis and #2 doubles Amanda Herr (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central)/Alejandra Portillo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) both lost 8-2. Jusseaume (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Ermitage)/Silva Vachhani (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro) were shut out in their match forcing the Lions to battle from a 3-0 deficit heading into singles action.
Today was not the Blue and Whites day, the ladies had trouble picking up momentum and fell in the 1,3,5, and 6 spots in straight sets. Herr playing the 4th spot forced her opponent to win in a super tiebreaker third set, that did fall in her favor.
Avramidis also split sets and forced a tiebreaker. She remained calm and collective to bring the women their first and only win on the day. This was her third win in a row and puts her season record at 9-5.
The lions finish their regular season this weekend when they travel to New York for one last round at Keuka and Wells college this Friday and Saturday.
