Harrisburg Women's Tennis Struggles Against 1st Place Berks

Reading Pa. - The Lady Women's tennis team traveled to face off against their conference rival and NEAC conference leader Penn State Berks.  The Lions fell 2-7 to the home team in Saturdays match up.

The Lions started off in a difficult position after the top doubles pair of Gabrielle LeGendre (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Notre Dame)/Theodora Avramidis(Glenwood, N.J. / Vernon Township)  fell  to Crystal Hitz/Elizabeth Kehm of Berks.    Two doubles faced the same 8-6 negative outcome and three doubles also fell, but with an 8-3 final score.  This put Harrisburg down 3-0 going into singles action.

In Singles action Theodora Avramidis (Glenwood, N.J. / Vernon Township) at the number two spot helped picked up one of the team's two wins of the day in a ten point, third set super tiebreaker going in her favor 10-8.  Alejandra Portillo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) added the only other win for Harrisburg Today.  She also took her opponent Sam Warga to three sets, but played them out as the match was still undecided at this point and won the final set 6-4.

"We had opportunities but Berks was just a little too strong for us" was how the day fell according to Head Coach Becky Cecere.  Harrisburg will host future CAC (Capitol Athletic Conference) opponent Frostburg St. Monday at 3:00pm
