Penn State Harrisburg Fall Moments Countdown – No. 10

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team got off to a bit of a rocky start to begin the 2012 season.  After dropping their first three matches, the ladies ended the fall portion of their most recent campaign 2-5.  The Lions second victory, however, was an absolute rout.  The women put on their most impressive performance of the early portion of their schedule by traveling to Baltimore and sweeping Notre Dame of Maryland 9-0 on Oct. 10.

Harrisburg's doubles teams of sophomore Gabrielle LeGendre (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Notre Dame) and senior Theodora Avramidis (Glenwood, N.J. / Vernon Township), juniors Alejandra Portillo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) and Tricia Stone (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown) and Manheim Central grads in Casey Stetler (Lititz, Pa. / Manheim Central) and Mandy Herr (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) all picked up victories to give the Lions a 3-0 overall lead heading into singles play.

The ladies did just as well on their own.  LeGendre did her job in the number one slot as did Avramidis, Penn State Harrisburg's number two player.  Portillo, Stetler and Stone picked up easy wins in the team's three, four and five spots and Herr's forfeit victory completed the dominating sweep for the Lions.

The Blue and White will look to improve upon its record when the ladies' season starts back up again in the spring.  Penn State Harrisburg returns to action Saturday, Mar. 23 when the Lions travel to Washington D.C. to take on Trinity.  All-important North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play begins six days later when Cazenovia pays a visit to Middletown.
