MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer fell to No. 23 Franklin & Marshall by a final score of 1-0 in a non-conference tilt on Saturday evening, Sept. 24. With the victory, the Diplomats remained undefeated and snapped a five-game win streak for the Lions.
The visiting team struck first with 18 minutes left in the first half when Meg O'Callahan found the back of the net off a wicked kick from outside the box. O'Callahan pierced the top left corner of the net to put the Diplomats up 1-0 in the game.
The Blue & White tried to fight back during the second half of the match, but Penn State Harrisburg was unable to capitalize on three shots on goal, all of which were stopped by Franklin & Marshall goalkeeper Emma Nolan. On the other side of the pitch, Lions' goaltender Sydney Mulka stopped eight shots on goal, including two spectacular saves in the second half to keep the game at bay.
The turning point came as the Diplomats made a strong offensive push in the first half which eventually lead to the game-winning goal. The Lions made a strong attack of their own in the last 45 minutes of play, but their efforts were too late.
