How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg fell in a non-conference matchup to Scranton 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 3.

Scranton's controlling possession early put consistent pressure on the Lions' defense. Hannah Williams anchored the Lions defense making 11 saves in the match. In the fourth minute, the Royals Teresa Hegarty ripped a shot around Williams, but Haley Vavrek made a great defensive save for the Lions to keep the game scoreless.

The Royals would break though with Olivia Traphagen scoring in the 28th minute, going ahead 1-0. The Lions were unable to find an answer and found themselves trailing at the half.

Harrisburg were more aggressive to start the second half with Kristen Stark put the first shot of the half on goal, but the Royals made a save. Rhyan Socash would follow ripping a shot that missed wide to the right. In the 73rd minute, Traphagen found Mazie Stiles who scored the Royals second goal of the game going ahead 2-0. The Lions tried to find to answer, pushing the attack late in the game, but could not find the back of the net.
