How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg took on Rutgers-Newark in their second game at the DC classic hosted by Catholic University.

The first half was highly contested with both teams having opportunities to score. The Lions defense was anchored by goalie Hannah Williams who made four key first half saves to keep Rutgers-Newark off the scoreboard. On offense, Mackenize Haladay and Amanda Throyk each got off shots, but could not get the Lions on the scoreboard sending the game scoreless into halftime.

In the second half, Rutgers-Newark took control of the game outshooting the Lions 10-3. The Scarlet Knights broke through when Tamia Howell scored in the 76th minute. Harrisburg attempted to level the game in the 80th minute when Rhyan Socash fired a shot on goal, but Rutgers Newark goal keeper Heidi Paulson made the saved. The Scarlet Kniights would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
