How It Happened

A pair of first-half goals doomed Penn State Harrisburg in the team's 2-0 loss to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) leaders from Mary Washington at a blustery Nittany Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 17.

The Blue & White defense held strong for much of the first half, with Harrisburg goalkeeper Kayla Arnold turning away seven attempts by the Eagles (9-2-1, 5-0) in the opening 29 minutes. The visitors finally broke through and got on the board when Corinne Carson finished off a feed from Lindsey Hendrickson in the 38th minute.

The Lions (7-9-1, 1-4) were whistled for a foul in the box less than three minutes later and Hendrickson took advantage by doubling the UMW lead, converting her penalty kick opportunity with 4:16 remaining in the first half.

Penn State Harrisburg's best chance to cut the lead in half came following a Mary Washington foul just outside the Eagles' box in the 67th minute. The ensuing free kick deflected off the hands of UMW goalkeeper Kelcie Macomber and Mackenzie Haladay got a good look at a potential rebound but her attempt missed wide with 22:25 left to play.
