How It Happened

The Penn State Harrisburg Women's Soccer team used an offensive explosion to power to their first CAC win this season over Southern Virginia. Before the game, the Blue & White honored seniors Kayla Arnold and Tabitha Fake.

The Lions offense got started quickly drawing a penalty in the box in the 2nd minute, setting up a penalty shot. Romina Dichio took the kick and buried the shot in the back of the net to giving the Lions the advantage. In the 8th minute, Paige Sharrow found Rhyan Socash open in the box. Socash would make a spectacular play to control the pass and easily beat the Knights goal keeper for the goal. The Lions would add a third goal in the 23rd minute. Madison Hemler would find Mackenzie Haladay off a free kick, and Haladay would tap a shot into the back of the net. Harrisburg would hold a three goal lead at the half.

Harrisburg would not rest on the lead and immediately went on the attack in second half. The Lions struck 31 seconds into the half when Haley Vavrek found Socash in the box, and Socash drove the ball past the Knight's goal keeper for her second goal of the game. Moments later in the 46th minute, the Lions would earn their second penalty shot of the game, and this time Madison Hemler would covert the opportunity putting the Lions ahead 5-0.

The Blue & White would strike again in the 61st minute. Elizabeth Clippinger would beat a defender and drove toward the goal. Clippinger would then cross the ball across the goal and found the head of Sharrow, who headed in her first career goal. After the Knights scored on a penalty shot in the 70th minute, Dichoio would find Isabella Longo for her first career goal, putting the Lions ahead 7-1.
