Seagulls Early Goal Helps Hold Off Lions

Salisbury, Md. The Lady Lions struggled on the road against the Salisbury Seagulls on Saturday October 7th.  The Seagulls scored a goal in the ninth minute that seemed to put Harrisburg on their heels for the rest of the first half.  The Seagulls held on strong in the second half and eventually claimed the 2-0 win.

How it Happened:

Harrisburg started strong and looked ready to play, until the Seagulls found the back of the net on their first shot of the day in the 9th minute.  The Lions struggled to find any rhythm or work rate after the goal for the rest of the half, but were able to keep Salisbury from any dangerous threats.

Penn State made some changes and came out determined to make up for the disappointing first half effort.  Both teams battled hard, but in the end the Seagulls were able to find the net once more and the Lions normally dominate offense were not able to break through.

Coach Thoughts: Assistant Coach Demetrios Papadopoulos

"Unfortunately, today just wasn't our day.  We started the game decently but gave up a goal on their first shot in the 9th minute and our play deteriorated from there.  Instead of settling down and playing our game, the girls chased a tying goal and did not allow their ability to shine.  If there is one thing I think our team needs right now, it is to find a way to be mentally tougher.  When we give up a goal, the girls start to panic a bit and I think to really take our game to the next level and enjoy some postseason play, they need to block out the negative and focus on playing the way they know how to."
