Lions Struggle on Road against Seahawks

St. Mary's, Md. – Penn State Harrisburg opened up Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Play on Saturday September 23rd against the St. Mary's Seahawks.  The Lions were on the road for their first conference contest.  After a very impressive start to the match, the Lions made a costly mistake that handed the Seahawks their first goal in the 27th minute.

Harrisburg went into the half down 1-0 while feeling completely in the game.  Unfortunately, the Seahawks had more of the play in the second half outshooting the Lions 15-2.   Penn State was able to keep things tight, but after adjustments in an attempt to bring the game back within reach, quickly found themselves down 2-0.  As they continued to push, the Seahawks took advantage of the open space in the defensive end.  They hit a screamer from outside the 18-yard box to score their third in the 84th minute.

Kristen Stark nearly put the team on the board a minute later, but her shot on the breakaway sailed high.  St. Mary's put their final score in off a corner that went directly in the back of the net for a 4-0 win in the final second.

The Lions will hope to learn and regroup as they host their final non-conference match on Wednesday September 27th against Lycoming College.  Kickoff is at 4:00 pm.
