CAC Highlight Sophomore Forward Erica Hile

CAC Highlight Sophomore Forward Erica Hile

The Capital Athletic Conference highlighted women's soccer player Erica Hile in their weekly segment "INTRODUCING."

Penn State Harrisburg sophomore women's soccer forward Erica Hile is a criminal justice major who has been playing soccer for nearly all of her life. She describes herself as outgoing and social, so it's no surprise that her favorite spot on campus is where the most people convene. Hile and the Lions are fighting for a CAC playoff spot with two games remaining in the season. INTRODUCING … Erica Hile.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?

I have been playing soccer since I was five years old. I played on a town ball team, my middle school and high school team, and also was part of a travel team. My dad has been a major part of my soccer career and has been my coach for most of my seasons. I was involved in other sports, but found the most love for the game of soccer.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?

I am a Criminal Justice major, with a possible minor in psychology. The most important thing I have learned is time management. Between soccer and school work, I needed to find self-discipline to make it all possible and be successful.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus would be our cafeteria, Stacks. After class it is always fun going down to Stacks and being able to talk to my teammates and friends. That's the place that has the most people and it is always an entertaining atmosphere.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?

My favorite place to visit would be Florida. One of my family members has a house in Florida and it is always a great time with my family to go to the beach and relax.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?

I am a member of the West Shore Evangelical Free Church, I have participated in community service activities for my hometown, and I also play intramural sports out of the soccer season.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.

My most memorable moments over my 2 years of playing would be all the bus rides and locker room singing and dancing. Also, our game against Washington College in the rain was memorable. The game was delayed due to lightning, but after a long wait we went back out to the field, with the rain now coming down harder, and slid through all the puddles on the field, not just once, but multiple times.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?

The most influential person other than my parents would be my 4th and 5th grade basketball coach. He taught me so much about being an athlete and always keeping a positive attitude. He taught me how to be a leader on and off the field and continues to support me today in all me decisions.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?

I believe the most societal issue facing college students today is the overuse of drugs and alcohol. So many college kids feel the need to go party in order to fit in. It is a big problem because the majority of them are underage and end up losing focus on their school work.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?

My favorite entertainment would be spending time with my friends, family, and my dog. I am very outgoing and social, so anytime I am active and always on the move, I can guarantee I am having a good time.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?

I would tell younger kids to follow their dreams and never stop believing in themselves because anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Outside of the CAC, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?

My favorite sports team is the United States Women's National Soccer Team. Their team inspires me to do the best I can every second I step foot on the field and always reminds me to have fun during the game of soccer.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with.

Abby Wambach – She has always been an idol of mine and I would love to sit down and be able to talk with her about soccer and all her accomplishments.

My grandpa - I never had a chance to meet, but I have heard so many stories about his love for sports and it would be awesome to be able to tell him all about my sports career.

Melissa McCarthy – She is hilarious and I would love to have a conversation with her in person. I love to laugh and I know there would never be a dull moment with her.
