Harrisburg Drops First CAC Contest

Harrisburg Drops First CAC Contest

Frostburg, Md. - The Harrisburg Blue and White women's soccer team has had their fair share of tough match ups this season.  Competing in their first official CAC contest on the road against Frostburg State would definitely be another one.

The young Lion squad is in their first rough patch of the year losing two straight games for the first time this season.  Harrisburg was hoping to start strong and make a move to change the trend tonight against the Bobcat's, but an early set of goals followed by a red card put the Lions playing with ten women and made for a very long day.

Frostburg scored a whopping 8 goals in the first half to secure the game.  Many came after Harrisburg lost their star central midfielder Hannah Jorich (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown) who made a mental error when she handballed a shot heading for the goal resulting in a PK and a red card.  Unfortunately, that was just one of the two Pk's that the Bobcats would be awarded on the day.

"It was a very difficult game for all of us.  We gave up early goals and our making mental mistakes are setting up easy goals for our opponents."  Harrisburg head coach Adam Clay continued with, "We have to learn from our mistakes, forget the result, and move forward.  I was very proud of some of the girls who usually don't get a lot of time that stepped up and gave 100% effort when they entered the game today."

Harrisburg's Diandra Soto (Mountville, Pa. / Milton Hershey) was one of the few strong spots today by being an example with her effort and communication on the field.   Not to mention Goalkeeper Mackenzie Gates (Harrisburg, Pa./ Central Dauphin) who registered 12 saves, including a diving PK stop and robbing more than a few Bobcat players from adding to the tally.

Harrisburg's road does not get any easier as they head to Christopher Newport on Saturday who is currently 6-2-1 overall.
