How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg could not overcome a slow start, falling to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Lancaster Bible by a score of 66-62.

 

Harrisburg got off to a slow start, falling behind 11-3 in the opening quarter. Anna Mahan scored the Lions lone basket, knocking down a 3-pointer midway through the quarter. The Lions offense would get going in the second quarter, behind 3-pointers from Sidney Gordon and Jayla Galbreath. Harrisburg would continue to chip away at Lancaster Bible's lead, pulling back within two points when Galbreath drained her second 3-pointer of the quarter. The Chargers responded, closing the half on a 6-2 run, taking a 26-20 advantage into the half.

 

Sydney Hemler got the Lions offense going in the third quarter, converting a layup. Mahan connect on a 3-pointer on the following possession, pulling Harrisburg back within one point. The Chargers once against answered, using a 10-0 run to take back control of the game. Laurel Amey ended the Chargers run driving to the basket for a layup, drawing a foul in the process and completing the 3-point play. After a pair of layups by Mahan, Gordon connected on her second 3-pointer of the game, bring Harrisburg back within five points. Lancaster Bible scored the final four points of the quarter, holding a 48-39 entering the fourth quarter.

 

The Lions trailed by ten-points three minutes into the final quarter, when Galbreath drained another 3-pointer, part of her team high 22 points. Galbreath would go on to score the Blue & White's next nine-points, including a pair of 3-pointers, the second of which pulled the Lions back within five points. Amey would hit a 3-pointer of her own, pulling Harrisburg back within a single point. The Lions could not take the lead, as the Chargers held on for a 66-62 victory.

 

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions were led by Jayla Galbreath who scored 22 points, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc

- Anna Mahan had a solid outing, scoring 16 points and gathering in eight rebounds

- Laurel Amey reached double figures, scoring 13 points

- Harrisburg had another solid outing from behind the arc, knocking down 10 3-pointers as a team

- Lancaster Bible won the rebounding battle, holding a 42-31 advantage

- The Chargers were led by Caitlin Hickey, who scored 25 points

 

Who's Next?

The Lions will return home to face Penn State Abington in a critical NEAC match up on Saturday Feb. 8 at 3:00 p.m.
