How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg rolled past Clarks Summit 69-33 on Thursday night, Dec. 6. The Lions knocked down 14 3-pointers powering Harrisburg to the victory. The Blue & White were led offensively were led by Shanique Mattis, who had a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting.  

The Lions' offense got off to a dominating start in the first quarter, going on a 23-0 run to seize control of the game. Mattis scored eight points in the quarter, connecting twice from behind the 3-point line during the run. Rachel Miller and Kendis Butler each add a 3-point basket.

The Blue & White continued their domination in the second quarter, seeing both Butler and Miller connect from deep twice in the quarter. The Lions would control the boards, outrebounding the Defenders 39-27, giving the Blue & White a few extra possessions. Harrisburg would hold a commanding 43-14 heading into halftime.

With a firm grip on the game, head coach Ross Patrick gave opportunities to his reserve players. Sixteen different Lions saw time in the second half, allowing Harrisburg to get baskets from twelve different players. Rebounding was also a team effort with 13 players recording at least one rebound. After outscoring the Defenders 20-4 in the third quarter, the Lions would cruise to a 69-33 victory.

Inside the Numbers

- Shanique Mattis led all scorers with 16 points on 6-10 shooting

- Rachel Miller scored 11 points, while connecting on all three three-point attempts

- Kendis Butler also reached double figures scoring 11 points

- The Lions stingy defense force 20 turnovers and held the Defenders to 4 points in both the first and third quarters.

- Harrisburg also won the battle on the glass 39-27

Who's Next?

The Lions have a break for final exams, but will be back in action on Sunday December 30 at 2 p.m. when they host Alvernia University.
