Missed Free Throws Prove Costly in Loss to Gwynedd Mercy

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions traveled to face off against the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins on Saturday November 18, 2017.  Both teams went back and forth through most of the early part of the game, but eventually Gwynedd Mercy pulled away and finished the game with a 61-50 win.

How it Happened:

Penn State Harrisburg opened the game on a 9-5 run that the Griffins were able to tie at the end of the first quarter.  Harrisburg took the lead to start the second half thanks to a Janel Brown three pointer and held on to it for almost the entire second quarter.  Unfortunately, Gwynedd Mercy went on a 15-3 run to finish the half and went into the break with a 28-19 lead.  The Lions were unable to find a run of their own as the game closed out and eventually had to settle for their first loss of the season. 

 

Impact Performance:

Jada Pettis- 15 Points and 13 Rebounds

Janel Brown- 14 Points and 13 Rebounds

 

Inside the Numbers:

Both teams played an even contest, but two stat categories appeared to make the difference in today's game.  The Lions turned over the ball 27 times compared to the Griffins 15.  From the free throw line, both teams attempted 25 a piece, but the Lions converted 14 while Gwynedd Mercy went 21-25.

Penn State Harrisburg will take on the loser of the Haverford and The Sage Colleges in the consolation game Sunday at 12:00 pm.
