St. Mary's Slips Past the Lions

St. Mary's, Md.- Saturday February 13th, today the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team hit the road to take on St. Mary's (Md.). The Lady Lions led at the end of the first quarter and both teams battled for the remainder of the game to keep the lead. Harrisburg fell in the final minute, 64-59.

Senior Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) gave Harrisburg their first lead of the day in the first two minutes of the game with back to back baskets. Teammate Rachel Miller (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) came out hot with two straight three pointers to extend their lead, 10-6. The home team struggled to put points on the board in the opening minutes due to Harrisburg's strong defense. The Lions continued their lead into the second quarter with a 7-0 run. Harrisburg consistent defense limited St. Mary's to only one point in the first five minutes of the second quarter. The home team found their stride in the last three minutes of the half to tie the game up at 29 points.
 
As the third quarter got underway, Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) sank two jumpers to regain the lead. Carmo went on to score eight points in the third quarter, where five lead changes took place between the Lions and Seahawks. Both teams were once again tied up with 42 points a piece as they headed into the final quarter. Both teams struggled to keep the lead as the fourth quarter counted down. With only 1:58 left in the game, the Seahawks pulled ahead for the final time after sinking five straight points. Carter led for the third straight game for the Lions with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Carmo also came up big for Harrisburg with 14 points and three rebounds.
 

Harrisburg will be on the road again on Wednesday February 17th. The women will travel to Wesley for a 6 pm tip-off
