York (Pa.) Slips Past the Lions

York, Pa.- Saturday January 2nd, this afternoon the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team faced the York College Spartans for their fourth conference game of the season. The women struggled in the first quarter but came back in the second to bring York's (Pa.) lead to only three. In the second half the home team pulled away and went on to beat Harrisburg, 62-45. 

As the first half got underway, the Spartans were playing very strong defensively. Harrisburg was not able to score a point until the sixth minute of play. York limited Harrisburg to only ten points in the first quarter. The Lions dominated the second quarter by scoring 18 points. Senior Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) put Harrisburg back on the board by making two back to back lay ups. Freshman Rachel Miller (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest) followed in Carter's footsteps by making a lay up and hitting a three pointer to put Harrisburg within four points of the Spartans. Junior guard Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) battled to make the last bucket before going into halftime. Carmo's effort put the Lions only three points behind York. 

Penn State Harrisburg struggled to get on the board in the third quarter. Harrisburg was only able to score four points due to four free throws from Miller. The Spartans extended their lead as the fourth quarter progressed and Harrisburg was unable to recover. Miller led with 12 points and one rebound while Carter had eight points and nine rebounds. Up next for the women will be their first home game of the new year. Penn State Harrisburg will host Christopher Newport on Wednesday January 6th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
