Women's Basketball Falls to Salisbury

Salisbury, Md.- Wednesday December 9th, this evening the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team took on Salisbury for their third conference game of the year. The Lady Lions lead at the end of the first quarter but trailed for the remainder of the game. The Seagulls went on to win 65-55.

Sophomore Alexis Nolan  (Beltsville, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti) started it off quick for Harrisburg with the first layup of the game. Just a few moments later Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) hit her first three pointer of the day to put the Lions ahead by five. Senior Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y / Milton Hershey) closed out the first quarter for Harrisburg with a layup and the lead at 8-7. Both teams battled back and forth in the first five minutes of the second quarter but the Lions could not find a steady rhythm to close out the first half. The Seagulls went on to score 12 points in the last four minutes of the half and extended their lead by 13 points going into halftime. 

As the second half began, Yanich stepped up and hit a three to get Harrisburg back on track. Junior guard Ana Edmondson (Lancaster, Pa. / JP McCaskey) also hit a three pointer as Harrisburg fought to tie the game up. As the end of the game neared, Penn State Harrisburg was trailing, 40-58. Sophomore Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder) battled throughout the last four minutes to score 11 points and brought Harrisburg only eight points behind the home team.  Brown led for the Lady Lions with 12 points and three rebounds. Yanich  was not far behind with eight points and four rebounds. 

Penn State Harrisburg will be back in action on Wednesday December 30th. The women will have some time off to prepare for their game at Alvernia. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm
