Lady Lions Fall to Misercordia

Dallas, Pa.- Sunday November 29th, this afternoon the Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team traveled to Dallas to take on Misercordia. Harrisburg was looking to bounce back after a difficult loss to Mansfield. The women came out strong in the first half but fell to Misercordia 64-49.

Throughout the first quarter both teams were very evenly matched. Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) got the first bucket of the game for Harrisburg while also having a very strong individual performance during the game. Fellow teammate Becca Bailey (Tobyhanna, Pa. / Notre Dame East Strousburg) fought hard to hit two back to back jumpers to put Harrisburg ahead in the beginning of the first quarter. The Lions came out fast in the second quarter due to a steal and three pointer from Senior Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township).  Yanich's effort put the Lions up for their biggest lead of the first half at 21-16. The Cougar's went on a run to come back and lead at the end of the first half, 35-29.

The second half proved to be much more difficult for the Lions. The women struggled offensively to get on the board and close the gap between Harrisburg and the Cougars. Misercordia led at the end of the third quarter, 49-41 and pulled away in the final quarter, 64-49. Offensively, Yanich led with 14 points and Carmo was close behind with 13. On the defensive end of the court Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY / Milton Hershey) fought for 11 rebounds while teammate Abrianna Hamby (Pequea, Pa. / Penn Manor) had nine.

The women will host Frostburg State on Wednesday December 2nd for their first conference game of the year. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
