Lions Playoff Hopes End at Mary Washington

Lions Playoff Hopes End at Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, Va. – The Penn State Harrisburg Lady Lions traveled to face off against the Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday February 14th.  Despite the festive holiday, the Lions received no love from the second place Eagles.

Mary Washington started strong and were able to build up a 17-10 lead just four minutes into the contest. The Lions responded back immediately with an 8-0 run of their own to take their first lead of the game after a Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) three pointer put Harrisburg up 18-17 with 13:18 to play in the half.

Sophomore Kate Carmo (Palmyra, Pa / Palmyra Area) followed their next possession with another three to regain the lead once more over the Eagles, but from that moment on it was all Mary Washington.  The home squad retook the lead and the game with their 25-4 run to finish the first half.

The second half did not produce the dramatic comeback that the Lion faithful had hoped for.  Alexis Nolan (Beltsville, Md. / St. Vincent Pallotti) did well off the bench scoring nine in her 21 minutes, while Carmo finished the game leading the team with 13 points.  Unfortunately, it was not enough to upset Mary Washington as they easily closed out the game for their twelfth conference win of the year 82-52.

The Blue and White return home next week for their final two games of the season now that they are officially out of playoff contention.  The Lions will face off against Wesley College Wednesday February 18th at 6:00 p.m.
