Penn State Harrisburg Can’t Repeat Second Half Come Back Over Bobcats

Middletown, PA – The Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team was looking for their second win over the Frostburg Bobcats Wednesday February 4th at the Capital Union Building.  In the first outing, the Lions came back from a 16 point first half deficit to finish with a 60-58 point win on the road.  The Bobcats had different ideas as they jumped out to a 21 point first half lead that the Lions would not be able to come back from this time around.

From the starting tip-off both teams were playing fast paced, but the quick pace was devastating for the Lions who had 18 first half turnovers.  This allowed the Bobcats to take an early lead.  Already up ten with 7:04 to play, the visitors finished the half on a 13-2 run and took a 41-19 lead into the locker rooms.

For most of the second half the Bobcats remained in control as Harrisburg used a full court press hoping to shrink the deficit quickly.  It took most of the half for the hard work to pay off, but down 13 with fewer than three minutes to play, things started to really happen.  Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder) hit a three, followed by a Kiara Carter (Bronx, NY. / Milton Hershey) steal and layup, and again a three by Brown instantly put the Lions back in contention down just 71-66 with 1:32 to play.

Unfortunately the Lions were not able to repeat the second half comeback like they had done to Frostburg this past December.  The Bobcats claimed their first Capital Athletic Conference win beating Penn State Harrisburg 79-66 as they hit their free throws to extend the lead at the end.

One bright spot on the night was the performance from Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) and Brown.  Yanich set a career high this past Saturday, only to beat it one game later by scoring 19 points.  Brown matched Yanich's 19 points, her second time scoring that number in her short career at Penn State Harrisburg.

The Lions will hope bounce back this weekend when they travel to Southern Virginia to face the Knights for a 1:00pm tip-off.
