Lions Playoff Push Halted at York

York, Pa. - Heading into the final stretch of the regular season, Penn State Harrisburg and York College were deadlocked at 3-7 in the Capital Athletic Conference, both still in contention for sneaking into the CAC playoffs.  The Lions defeated the Spartans earlier this season at home December 3rd with a convincing 71-62 victory.  York was determined to even the score with the visiting Lions, and that is just what they did as they defeated Harrisburg 72-55.

York wasted no time redeeming themselves from their earlier contest this season.  Harrisburg quickly saw themselves fall behind 9-0 after just four minutes of play. The Blue and White attempted to work their way back into the game, but the Spartans had a different plan in mind.  York connected on seven three pointers in the first half to keep Harrisburg out of reach the remainder of the first half.  The Lions went into the locker rooms trailing 44-20.

In the second half, the two teams battled point for point at the start of the half.  Eventually Harrisburg was able work down the deficit and to cut the York lead to 11 with just over twelve minutes to play.  Unfortunately for the Lions, this was as close as they would get. York was able to convert on open baskets down the stretch to keep the Blue and White out of reach as they took down the Lions 72-55.

Sophomore guard Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa / Palmyra Area) led the Lions with 12 points and 5 boards.  Freshman Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md. / Magruder) contributed with 11 points of her own, 9 of the 11 coming from beyond the arc.

The Lions will continue to make a push for the playoffs as every game increases with importance as the season starts to wind down.  Harrisburg will host St. Mary's College Saturday January 31st at 1pm.
