Carter’s Big Night Not Quite Enough against Wesley

Middletown Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball ran short against the Wesley Wolverines on Thursday January 23, 2014. Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y./ Milton Hershey) posted her fifth double-double of the season for the Lions, but they fell one shot short in a thrilling Capital Athletic Conference home game.

The Lions started off hot by going on an early 10-2 run to start off the first half.  The Wolverines were forced to take a quick timeout and then responded back with force.    After a 26-6 run to close out the last 15 minutes of the first half, Harrisburg found themselves down 28-16.

Harrisburg came out firing again to start the second half.   They used a 7-0 run in the first 3:28 of the second half to cut the Wolverines lead to five.  Wesley responded back over the next ten minutes and was able to keep the Lions at a short distance away.    Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) helped to lead the final charge for Harrisburg scoring nine points in the second half.  With just under five minutes remaining, Carter scored two straight buckets followed up with another two ponts from Carmo to cut the deficit to just three points with 2:38 remaining.

The Lions would get their chances to make the comeback official, but the tenacious Wolverine defense helped keep them stay on top.  Harrisburg had the final shot at the buzzer hoping to tie the game, but the ball bounced back in play and not in the net and fell 43-40.

Carter had an extremely impressive night scoring 20 points to go along with her 14 rebounds.  Carmo finished as the second highest scorer for the Blue and White with 16.  Harrisburg is now 5-11, going into their Saturday contest with the Salisbury Seagull's on January 25th at 2:00pm.
