Ladies Fall To 21st-Ranked Christopher Newport

Ladies Fall To 21st-Ranked Christopher Newport

Story by Penn State Harrisburg's Kenny Stone

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Heading into its matchup with Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 11, the Lions had to feel good coming off their thrilling win over Southern Virginia just three days prior.  Unfortunately, Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball team ran into a buzz saw in the form of the 21st-ranked team in the country and came up short against the deeper, more talented Captains.

Christopher Newport used a tenacious defense and rebounding attack, combined with balanced scoring to beat the ladies on their home floor.  They were led in scoring by Brandi Holland, who netted 18 points in just 15 minutes of playing time.  Jordan Miller and Nicole Mitchell also scored in double figures, dropping 14 and 12 on the Lions, respectively.

Penn Harrisburg was led in scoring by freshman Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra Area) who had seven points while sophomore Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) pitched in with five tallies.  Fellow sophomore Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y. / Milton Hershey) led the Lions in rebounding with seven boards.

The loss dropped the Blue & White to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in CAC play.  The Lions will next be in action on the road this Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Marymount (Va.) at 6 p.m.
