Copeland, Zeanchock Named to NEAC’s All-Conference Teams

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – On Tuesday, Feb. 19, two Penn State Harrisburg women's basketball players were named North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) All-Conference selections.  Freshman Mercedes Copeland (Reading, Pa. / Reading) earned Second-Team All-Conference honors while junior Miranda Zeanchock (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) was voted to the All-League Third-Team.

Copeland was the team's leading-scorer, averaging 15.1 points per game.  She also led the Lions by swiping 2.4 steals per contest.  The Reading native started all but three games during her rookie campaign and put up great numbers on the glass, grabbing 7.8 rebounds per outing.  Copeland netted nearly 400 points this season, recorded four double-doubles and scored a career-high 27 points against Wells on Jan. 12.

Zeanchock missed the entire 2011-12 campaign due to injury and had an outstanding comeback season in 2012-13.  She averaged 14.6 points per game and was ranked nationally in three-point field goals made.  Her 71.9 free throw percentage led the Lions and she reached the double-digit scoring-mark in 19 of the ladies' 26 games this season, including scoring a season-high 25 points in a win over SUNYIT on Jan. 5.

Zeanchock scored a game-high 21 points in the Blue & White's NEAC Tournament Quarterfinal showdown with St. Elizabeth on Tuesday, Feb. 19.  Copeland added 18 points and nine rebounds in Harrisburg's 79-73 victory.

With the win, Penn State Harrisburg advanced to the conference tournament's Final Four taking place at Lancaster Bible this weekend.  The Lions face Keuka in the semifinal round for the third-consecutive year.  Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m.  The Storm knocked the ladies out of the postseason each of the past two seasons and defeated the Lions 86-71 in the teams' only meeting this season.
