Yetter Scores 1,000; Lions Win Again

Middletown Pa. – Everyone in the CUB came to the first annual costume night game excited to see the show.  Even with all the hoopla going on, Steph Yetter (Thompsontown, Pa. / East Juniata) stole the show scoring the first point of the game which also was her 1,000 point for the senior captain.  Harrisburg beat conference rival Penn State Berks with a score of 90-71 picking up their 12th conference win.

The Blue and White women's basketball team came into today's game already knowing that regardless of the outcome they will finish second in the South Conference and would be hosting a first round playoff game next Tuesday night.  Berks are still fighting for a chance at the third place and the final South playoff position.

With the game being of such importance to them, it was not a real surprise when the visiting Lions started the game with an 11-3 run jumping ahead early over Harrisburg.   With just over just ten minutes to go in the half, Harrisburg was still down by seven 21-14.

After a timeout, some encouraging words from Coach Patrick, and adding some fresh meat to the game, Harrisburg went on an impressive 19-0 run taking the lead 33-21 with 5:49 to go in the half.

Harrisburg started the second half again a little slow, something they will hopefully be able to rectify by next week's playoffs.  Berks was able to bring the game back within five points 55-50 at the 15:29 mark.  Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) responded immediately with a three ball that stopped the visitors final run of the night.  Harrisburg Finished the final 15 minutes of the game in style not allowing Berks any chance to get back into the game.

The win was great, but the story of the night was Yetter's 1,000 points.  She is the first women's basketball playerat Penn State Harrisburg to reach this difficult accomplishment.  The four year starter was recognized immediately after scoring the first point of the game, an exciting moment for her, her family, and all the fans at Penn State Harrisburg that were here to witness the tremendous feat.

Harrisburg has two games left to fine tune their play heading into the post season.  With the return of Julie McManus (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Freedom Valley Christian) and Lucky Snypse (Philadelphia, Pa. / George Washington Carver of Engineering and Science) just this past week, the team looks poised to really make a run at the Conference Title.  The Blue and White head to Wilson Friday night, before hosting their final regular season game Saturday against Penn State Abington.
