Lancaster, Pa. – Harrisburg came into tonight's game with plenty of momentum from the four game win streak they have built up over the past two weeks. Unfortunately that streak came to an end tonight as the Lions will have to settle with a 1-1 season tally against the Lancaster Bible Chargers after another fierce battle between the two strong teams.
Lancaster got the first run of the game, scoring five unanswered points to start the game off. Harrisburg responded quickly with a 17-6 run into the 12:55 mark that gave them a 5 point lead. The Lions were able to hold the lead the entire half, but as the Chargers slowly chipped it down a made jump shot on the last successful Lancaster bucket ended the half with a dead even score at 33 apiece.
The first five minutes of the second half were back and forth remaining tight. Then Harrisburg's three leading scorers of the night and also upper class leaders Steph Yettter (Thompsontown, Pa. / East Juniata) 20 points, Amanda Moyer (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) 11 points and 17 rebounds, and Miranda Zeanchock (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) 16 points, each scored two points and helped turn their 6-0 run into just a portion of the 16-2 run the Lions went on. With 11:11 to go the Lions were up 50-43, but in the game a like this any lead was never going to last too long. The Chargers worked their way back into the game with some well-timed baskets that would prove to be enough to sway the lead in their favor as the final whistle blew finishing the game with a winning score of 76-69.
Coach Patrick summed the game up simply, "It's a disappointing loss, but it's the regular season and so we play on, and we get that much hungrier to see our opponents again in the post-season." Both the teams and the fans will have to wait until playoff picture unfolds to see if they will get to see the rubber match to decide this season's series winner, it's possible it might even be at the NEAC championship.
The Lady Lions can't dwell on the game long as they play host to Cazenovia College and Morrisville St. in back to back action Saturday and Sunday at the CUB.
