Harrisburg Lady Lions Come up short in Pepsi Tip-Off Final

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The blue and white started today's Pepsi Tip-Off Classic tournament final by scoring two and taking the lead on the Ursinus Bears off the start.  Unfortunately this would be the only lead they would see today as Ursinus Responded with force as the Bears captured the championship of the 24th Annual Pepsi Tip-Off tournament with an 85-38 win over PSU-Harrisburg at Susquehanna University.

The lady lions could not match the tempo the Bears started with as they went on an early 10-0 scoring run that put Harrisburg down by double digits and set the stage for an unfavorable afternoon for the young squad.

Leading by 22 at half, Ursinus opened the second period by outscoring the Lions 24-10 over the first 12 minutes.  Harrisburg would not make the dramatic comeback today and had to settle for their first loss of the season.

Even with the loss, the lady lions had a few bright spots from the gameMercedes Copeland (Reading, Pa. / Reading) led the team in both scoring (10) and rebounds (9) making a significant contribution for her 26 minutes coming off the bench.  Miranda Zeanchock (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) also added 10 points proving her off season work rate is paying dividends.

Considering the tough competition, starting 1-1 is a good start for the lady lions.  Especially considering beating Susquehanna, the tournament host in the semi-final game is the first time anyone has since the tournament's inception back in 1989.

Harrisburg has a nice chance to enjoy the Thanksgiving break while fine tuning the ladies on the practice court.  The lady lions play their next game Tuesay November 27th  at 7:00pm when they travel to play Cedar Crest.
