Mary Washington: 14-15-1 Overall, 3-2-1 CAC

How it Happened:

The Lions battled in game one, scoring the game's first run in the second inning. Kaylee DeMatteo and Kristen Evans singled and moved into scoring position on an error by the shortstop. Nina Bruno would follow with a ball hit at the shortstop, and Kristen Evans got into a rundown for long enough to allow DeMatteo to score.

On the mound, Allison Hartman controlled the Eagles hitters for most of the game, allowing nine hits and three runs in eight innings of action. Hartman also added three strikeouts.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead and held it entering the seventh inning, but the Lions had an answer. Hartman started the inning by taking a walk and DeMatteo added a single to put two runners on base. Erelle Sowers would then single past the third basemen tying the game at two forcing extra innings. The Eagles would retake the lead in the eighth inning and hold on for the win.

Both teams continued to find consistent offense in game two of the doubleheader. Hartman remained on the mound of the Lions, holding them to just two runs on ten hits while adding another three strikeouts.

Trailing 1-0 entering the sixth inning, when the Lions offense found its rhythm. Sowers led off the inning by doubling to right field. Humphrey bunted to move Sowers to third, setting the stage for Emily Parmer. Parmer would lay down the perfect bunt with Sowers in motion, perfectly executing the suicide squeeze to tie the game at one. Dominique Emmett would blast a ball into right field, doubling and allowing Parmer to score, giving the Lions the lead. Later in the inning, Hartman would hit a fly ball to the warning track allowing pinch runner Quincy English to score an insurance run. The Eagles would score a run in the seventh inning, but Hartman would shut the door, forcing a line out to Sowers at shortstop.
