Lions Beat Griffins, Bulldogs

 

Myrtle Beach, SC. – Penn State Harrisburg picked up wins over Gwynedd Mercy and Dean in doubleheader action. In game one, the Lions got a dominating pitching performance from Allison Hartman, who held the Griffins to two hits. Offensively Emily Parmer and Kaylee DeMatteo drove in a pair of RBI's each in route to the victory. In game two the Lions built an early 9-0 lead in part thanks to a 2-run home run by Dominique Emmett.

How it Happened:

Harrisburg got off to a strong start in game one against Gwynedd Mercy, scoring in the top of the first inning. After Katie Humphrey singled, Emily Parmer blasted a ball into the right center field gap, tripling and scoring Humphrey. Kaylee DeMatteo would hit a fly ball to left field that would bring home Parmer.

 

The Lions would get back on the board in the third inning. Humphrey would once again single and then steal second base. Parmer would smash a ball into center field, scoring Humphrey giving the Harrisburg a 3-0 advantage. The Blue & White would strike in the fifth inning after Carlee Gochenaur reached on an error. Humphrey would put a ball in play scoring Gochenaur. DeMatto would then drive in Humphrey putting the Lions up 5-0.  

 

Allison Hartman would dominate on the mound, keeping the Griffins off balance. Hartman would strike out seven, while holding Gwynedd Mercy to just two hits in route to the victory.

 

Harrisburg's offense once again got off to a fast start in game two against Dean College. After Erelle Sowers and Humphrey reached base, Parmer would hit a double off the center field fence driving in both runners. Nina Bruno would reach on an error scoring Parmer putting the Lions ahead 3-0. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Jess Roelli drove a ball into left field scoring two more runs. Jozelyn Diaz would drive in another run giving the Blue & White a 6-0 lead.

 

The Lions would strike again in the second inning. After a Humphrey single, Parmer would crush another double to center, adding to the lead. Dominique Emmett followed with a two-run home run to left center field putting Harrisburg ahead 9-0. The Lions would use the lead as an opportunity to get some experience for younger players and cruised to 11-4 victory.
