Offense Hard to Come by for Softball Team in Losses to Frostburg State

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg Softball Team hosted conference rival Frostburg State on Saturday, but fell to the Bobcats in both sides of the twin bill.  Of the 14 innings played, the Lions were only able to muster up one run total.  As a result, the team falls to 2-8 in conference play, and sees their season-long losing streak grow to eight games.

Game 1

The Bobcats got off to a fast start against game 1 starting pitcher Amanda Hartman, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.  With one out and runners at the corners, Emily Harvey grounded into a fielder's choice at 2nd base, but the play allowed for the runner on 3rd to come home safely.  A passed ball would allow for the runner on 2nd to advance to third before scoring on a Brittney Platt double to center field.  2-0 Bobcats

A three-run homerun by Megan Tracey in the top of the fourth inning would swell the lead for the visiting team.  5-0 Bobcats

The Lions would score their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Emily Parmer led off the inning by reaching base on a fielding error by the pitcher.  Parmer would then safely swipe 2nd base before an Amanda Hartman single to right field would bring her the rest of the way around the bags for a score.  5-1 Bobcats

Frostburg State would tack on one more run in the top of the fifth inning on a wild pitch before all was said and done, extending their lead further.  6-1 Bobcats

Game 2

Both starting pitchers got off to strong starts in this one, as the game flew along for the first few innings.  The Bobcats would score their first run of the game in the top of the third inning on a one-out RBI single by Hannah Tavik.  Tavik would then double her team's lead in the top of the fifth, this time on a one-out RBI double to left field.  2-0 Bobcats

The Lions, for the most part, managed to keep this contest close.  But things began to go awry in the top of the seventh inning when Frostburg State would tack on three more runs, making the seventh inning rallying comeback a little more difficult. Five hits that included two triples, two singles, and a homerun would get the job done for the Bobcats.  5-0 Bobcats
