Lions Split with Rival York College

Middletown, Pa. – As the fight for post-season positioning in the Capital Athletic Conference continues, every win is important.  Penn State Harrisburg and York College entered Wednesday's double-header ranked third and fourth in the standings.  The two teams split the double-header series Wednesday April 1st with the Lions taking game one, 2-1 and York winning game two, 10-1.

In game one, both teams came out playing impressive defense.  Neither team allowed any runs across home plate for the first two innings of play.  The Spartans struck first in the top of the third inning when a sacrifice fly put the visitors ahead 1-0.  Harrisburg knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the sixth when Mackenzie Trafka (Middletown Pa. / Middletown Area) singled and sent Gabrielle Wolfe (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) home.  The Blue and White headed into the bottom of the seventh with the game still tied determined to not let the game head to extra innings.  Wolfe stepped to the plate with runners on second and third and hit a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Kayla Seyfert (Lebanon Pa. / Cedar Crest) to reach home and give the Lions a 2-1 victory.

York came out in game two determined to get revenge on the Lions.  The Spartans started out hot knocking home seven runs in the opening inning.  Harrisburg answered in the bottom of the first with a run of their own to make it a 7-1 lead for the visitors.  York struck again in the fifth adding three more runs to their total.  With Harrisburg failing to put any runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth, York took game two 10-1 in five innings.

Penn State Harrisburg will attempt to pick up two more conference wins Saturday April 4th when they welcome the Bobcats of Frostburg State to town.  First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
